Literary Translation
The translation of literature is one of the most challenging kinds of translation despite the fact that it might appear pretty straightforward sometimes. We at Harcz & Partner realize this challenge, and will only accept the project if we have a literary translator who specializes in the given field. We co-operate with a select few freelance writers, journalists, editors and other people with a literal turn of mind, whom we selected from a vast number of applicants. The managing director of Harcz & Partner has a university degree in English into Hungarian literary translation (beside his Master of Arts degree in English historical linguistics), and he knows exactly what this craft is about.
As opposed to the number of languages (see our Featured languages) we can offer general, legal or business translation into (which is over 250), we only offer literary translation from English into about 10 – 12 languages, and from a handful of languages into American English. Our rates for literary translation principally depend on the volume, the expected turn-around, the language pair and the subject matter of the writing in question. The longer the deadline and the larger the volume, the cheaper our service is. A one-page love letter, for instance, costs much more per word than a 300-page book on Jewish history. However, if that book is due back within less than a month, the love letter might turn out to cost less per word. We do our best to ensure that our price reflect the actual amount of effort required to accomplish the task. (Continued below the image.)
